Pressure ulcers are a typical disease that can cause serious pain. They may also cause injury to muscles and bone beneath the skin. These wounds may develop rapidly and may require hospitalization. As the skin ages thins and becomes more vulnerable to injury. They can also develop under a fiberglass or plaster of Paris dressing. There are four types of pressure ulcers. A doctor can tell if a pressure ulcer is serious by assessing the extent of the injury and the appearance of the scar.
Stage I of a pressure ulcer begins with the skin being completely purple. The ulcer may develop to stage IV, with exposed bone, tendon and other underlying structures. Stage IV pressure ulcers can be caused by tunneling or undermining. The depth of a pressure ulcer varies depending on its anatomical location. A pressure ulcer may be deep or shallow, in relation to the depth. The National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel describes four different stages of pressure ulcers.
Pressure ulcers are painful lesions on the skin resulting from exposure to high pressure. They are more prevalent in those who are in bed or in a wheelchair. They typically appear on arms and backs and often are accompanied by pus-like drainage. Pressure ulcers can cause severe tissue damage beneath and tend to heal gradually. The patient could also be suffering from other conditions including peripheral vascular disease.
